Tero Saarinen's new work premieres in Germany

Tero Saarinen´s latest creation, Double Lives, will receive its world premiere on Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater in Germany. This whole-evening performance features 20 dancers. Double Lives was commissioned by nordwest / Tanzcompagnie Oldenburg and Tanztheater Bremen, a collaboration between two of North-Western Germany´s leading dance companies. After Oldenburg, the production will move on to Theater Bremen on April 10, 2010.

Double Lives continues the thematic journey that Saarinen embarked on with Next of Kin (Tero Saarinen Company, 2008): an exploration of humanity´s subconscious, mental conflicts, and patterns of behaviour. One major inspiration for the new work has been the universal idea of the doppelganger. Saarinen and his creative visual team play with illusion and reality: the complex character of humanity is portrayed on stage - both figuratively and literally - with shadows and echoes.

Along with Saarinen´s core artistic team - Jarmo Saari (music and sound design), Ville Konttinen (lighting and set design), Erika Turunen (costume design) and choreographer´s assistants Satu Halttunen and Henrikki Heikkilä - other Finnish talent contributed to the production, in the costume creation and video work. Eight members of Tero Saarinen Company have been on Saarinen´s team in Germany, with some work also being done in Finland.

NORDWEST / Tanzcompagnie Oldenburg and Tanztheater Bremen is a co-operation between the two independent dance departments at Oldenburgisches Staatstheater and Theater Bremen. For further information please visit: www.nordwest-tanz.de | www.staatstheater.de | www.bremertheater.com
