_March News: Step in to the dreamworld of Tove Jansson
This month we kick off one of our grand projects of the year: a beautiful exhibition showcasing the work of Tove Jansson, produced by the Belgian Comic Strip Center in Brussels. The exhibition - consisting of many rarities - allows you to go beyond the traditional image of Jansson as a children's author and get to know her unique talent as a comic strip artist and illustrator.
_Visit the enchanted world of Moomintrolls
Starting 2 March, original works by Finnish illustrator, painter and author Tove Jansson (1914-2001) are presented at the Belgian Comic Strip Center in Brussels. The pieces have been chosen from the collection at Tampere Art Museum's Moominvalley and the archives of Moomin Characters. Some of the illustrations have never been showcased in public, making this exhibition a once-in-a-lifetime occasion to discover Jansson's talent.
The first Moomin story was published in 1945 in the book The Moomins and the Great Flood. After being published in the English newspaper, The London Evening News, the Moomin comic eventually became an international success. At its peak it was published in 120 newspapers in 40 different countries. Tove Jansson had her own unique way of combining language and text to tell stories. Both her books and her comics have a philosofical tone that allows the reader to connect with the story and with the characters. Jansson also illustrated books such as Alice in Wonderland and The Hobbit. These illustrations can also be seen in the exhibition that will continue until the end of August. _More information here.
