Juhani Aaltonen (b. 1935) is one of the all-time greats in Finnish and European modern jazz. The saxophonist/flautist will celebrate his 75th birthday in 2010, but his accolade-filled career is still expanding at a remarkable rate. Aaltonen, who became known for his collaborations with Edward Vesala, Henrik Otto Donner, Arild Andersen and others, has also become a leader of his own groups during the past decade. With his quartet, an outstanding collection of Finnish jazz A-listers, Aaltonen recorded Conclusions, which was released in December 2009 on TUM records. Conclusions reflects Aaltonen´s career spanning some five decades both musically and spiritually.
Juhani Aaltonen Quartet´s showcase concert at Jazzahead! is a unique chance to hear this great ensemble live. Don´t miss it!
