Mika Kaurismäki´s Mama Africa has been selected for Tribeca Film Festival in New York and Hot Docs documentary film festival in Toronto. Both festivals are highly respected and this may be the first time for a Finnish film to attend them both. Mama Africa´s first audience screening at Tribeca will be on April 23 and at Hod Docs on April 30. Director Mika Kaurismäki will attend both festivals. Mama Africa was recently awarded with the audience award at Berlin International Film Festival.
Mama Africa is a documentary film about the legendary South African singer and human rights fighter Miriam Makeba (1932-2008), whose songs about joy, love and revolution touched millions of people around the world. Makeba´s best known song is "Pata Pata".
Mama Africa is produced by Mika Kaurismäki´s company Marianna Films, Starhaus (Germany) and Millennium Films (South-Africa).
