_Cinema Special: Brussels European Film Festival

At the end of June, the Brussels European Film Festival will present us with sparkling new movie experiences. Among the films competing in the main category (Compétition Officielle) is Finnish director Mika Kaurismäki's latest production The House of Branching Love (Haarautuvan rakkauden talo, 2009). It will be screened in Flagey cultural centre on 26 June with the actors Elina Knihtilä and Ilkka Villi present. An occasion to celebrate Midsummer with us - Finnish style!

_The House of Branching Love

Mika Kaurismäki is the older brother of the equally talented sibling Aki. The House of Branching love premiered in Finland in August 2009 and has toured film festivals around the world. The comedy tells the story of a couple whose marriage is falling apart. They break up but decide to continue living together until the house get sold. When both of them fail to follow the rules of their new arrangement, an open war between the former couple breaks out. The film is based on the novel with the same title by Petri Karra.

Since its founding in 1974 Brussels European Film Festival has become one of the major movie forums in Europe. The focus has been mainly on productions by new film makers, but this year more established film makers will take part in the festival. The festival will last for eight days from 23 to 30 June with about sixty film premieres. _For more information about the event, see here...
